Royal Kingdom of the Parts of Speech: Sample Story, Sample Posters and Sample Songs

Sample Story:

(From Page 1)
Far, far away in the Royal Kingdom of the Parts of Speech, King Noun ruled over all the land. (Notice the capital N blazed across his chest!) In fact, he is not only ruler of all the land, he's in charge of naming all the persons, places, things and ideas in the kingdom, too. His official responsibility within the sentence is to "introduce and identify subjects and objects." (And occasionally complements.)

He loves his job! There is always so much variety; in fact, there are more nouns in the kingdom (language) than any other type of word: castles, knights, swords, dragons, even ideas such as honor and peace. They are all nouns and King Noun takes care of all of them. (Give examples of nouns, both concrete and abstract)

There are two main types of nouns - common and proper. When the king goes out among the "common" people of the kingdom, he doesn't stand on ceremony. He's there just as a friend, who happens to be king. In that case the noun "king" is just a common noun and isn't capitalized. But when he acts in a more "proper" manner, he uses his official title of King Noun. Now he's not just any king, he's a specific king, King Noun. Therefore, King Noun is a proper noun and is capitalized. Proper nouns refer to specific persons, places, objects, and ideas. (Don't forget that proper nouns are "packaged deals" in that all the important words in the name are capitalized.)

A NOUN is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Its job within the sentence is to introduce and identify subjects and objects.

Sample Song:

King Noun Song
(Tune: "My Lady Greensleeves")

Behold! King Noun and his golden crown
Shows that he's the one who's in charge here!
So lend an ear now, then you will hear now,
Your knowledge, I fain, would enlarge now!
He rules over all the realm
Each person, place, and idea, or thing!
He'll introduce subjects, objects,
For that is his duty as The King!
